Eligibility Criteria

The competition is open to all resident citizens of Nigeria

  1. 18 years and above
  2. Who have Instagram or Facebook account and have followed @theplacelagos on Instagram OR liked our Facebook page @theplacelagos

How to participate

  1. Review our product offerings/ menu in any of our existing restaurants, to identify how you can improve on our offering: either to provide a new popular product or to radically improve the taste of our existing product
  2. Identify/Produce at least one food product (maximum of 3) that will be appealing, tasty and well received by people living in Nigeria and likely to become a best seller in a restaurant. Note that The Place operates a displayed Quick Service format, as opposed to a la carte restaurant. Consequently, all submission MUST have the ability to be displayed and hold well in our display cabinet.
  3. Submit a picture of each food as cooked by you OR a video of you making the food to
  4. Submission via email must follow the following format:
    1. Name: Surname, first name
    2. Social media account name (on the platform you follow us) – Facebook (and / or Instagram)
    3. Email address
    4. Phone number
    5. Gender - Male or female
    6. Primary state of residence in Nigeria to date
    7. One high resolution picture (jpeg format) of each food product OR a video of you making the food (pls remember to include the download link)
    8. State the name and give a brief of the inspiration behind each food dish submitted and why you think it will be acceptable/popular amongst Nigerians - (maximum of 150 words per dish)
    9. State key ingredients/recipe and cooking/production process used
    10. Specify culinary training and experience (if any)

Recommended Focus

These are top popular categories, however, contestants are free to make submissions outside these suggestions.

  1. Well-seasoned fried (in batter, in sauce or otherwise) animal proteins like meats, fish, chicken, prawn, snail, gizzard etc. 
  2. Grilled animal proteins, preferably wood or charcoal grilled
  3. Diced or small pieces of animal protein in sauce
  4. Rice and pasta products
  5. Snacks, including handy flour products also called finger food
  6. Plantain, preferably fried

Announcement of winners

  1. Shortlisted contestants will be announced on our social media platforms and via phone numbers and email addresses 2 months after close of submission of entries
  2. The shortlisted contestants will be called in for the live cooking session to prepare their food and give to a panel of judges, who will determine the top 3 winners based on the judging criteria.
